I have some stories of the nightclub scene for women since I helped run one and then ran one myself ..I also was a DJ around that time and knew others plus then went on to be a photographer for a couple of women’s magazines and contributed to INpress magazine as I worked for them so I also ended up doing interviews with the women I loved in music thanks to my role at inpress magazine I got hold of these mega stars and this was all from 1987-1998 I sort of gave it in but came back as a photographer as we were doing some fashion shoots and I got back into it again. The last club night for women that I was part of with Natalie Zibung was the first LICK at the girl bar in Collingwood THE GLASSHOUSE, the biggest night that was sold out and still had lines of girls outside lined up waiting to get in if anyone left, as the place was FULL and that was the only way to let anyone in. We had Ed Hardy fashion and its people there with giveaways , we had Rocco the dragking MC for the night and some of the drag kings performing. Sarah C was performing with her dancers. DJ Mara was on and DJ Kat. along with the fashion parades throughout the night with my models. They all arrived in a convertible mustang and Ed Hardy crew arrived with their Hummer Jeep with big speakers pumping music down Gipps street. As I was going to make sure my involvement with a Gay Gal night was going to be a HUGE one and it was all that. No other gal club has had that much entertainment.
I have photos of the early club scenes at Girlbar at the ever popular Girlbar at the prince of Wales, some warehouse parties at Shed 14 winter daze and summerdayze.
I had the honour of getting the 3 girl band BLUEHOUSE into the studios of 3CR for an interview. it was awesome. the girls sang a couple of songs in the studio we were all squashed in but it was awesome.

I believe Josh. Officially these clubs will say they are opposed to homophobia but , just as legislation cannot control how people think and therefore the Anti Hate legislation proposed by the Australian Federal Gove rnment will achieve nothing. After well, over 2000 years – long before Christianity became a religion – Hate and Hatred was encouraged by religious leaders. Older people, Jews, Christians, Muslims, grew up being taught by the leaders of these three Abrahamic Religions to Hate. Jews were taught to hate Jesus and his followers, later jews were taught to Hate Christians and Muslims. Christians were taught to Hate Jews, Muslims and other Christians who did not comform to their type of Christianity. Muslims were taught to hate Jews and Christians.
The followers of all three were taught and encouraged to go out and kill each other and members of their own religions who don’t conform.
For example: For many centuries, including the 20rh and 21st Centuries, Roman Catholics, Anglicans and all other Christian sects were taught by their Popes. Archbishops, Kings, Queens, Presidents, Prime Ministers and other politicians that it was perfectly OK to persecute each other.
Homophobia has been so ingrained into Sports Clubs it will take many decades to make their members and players abandon their Hatred, their Discrimination of all of those who do not conform to their way of thought and at the top of that list will be Homophobia.

Mark Baxter nails some very serious issues. It’s an excellent article. However, I find it curious that in the age of Andrew Tate he did not mention misogyny. It’s an old and embedded hate, and as Baxter says, hate does not happen in silos. Perhaps people feel that existing commissions and policies are addressing misogyny, but the same could be said for the other forms hatred takes. Misogyny is a murderous hatred that needs deep exploration.

I get no pleasure in saying this but: “It were ever so” – particularly for our LGBTIQA+ Community. For many decades the Hatred, the Discrimination, the Slurs, the Violence against us was, in Australia, led by all of Australia’s Police Forces. They took the greatest Pleasure out of their actions and that included Murder, with the latter being, at best, half heartedly investigated and always ended up with the police being either exonerated or by a carefully picked homophobic Jury found Not Guilty.
It won’t matter how many Hate Laws are passed because no-one can control how other people think. Parents and, especially, Religious leaders, who teach their children and followers to Hate from a very early age.It becomes part of their very nature.
Want to control how people think? Then establish a Communist or Nazi regime and if anyone disagrees with you then there is only one very simple answer, an answer we saw Hitler, Stalin, Mao and all autocracies and dictatorships use to great effect and that is to just Kill them.
We have to teach ourselves not to hate and for many within our community that is very hard ask.
