Throwback: A snapshot of Pride March Victoria in 2009

ON a sunny afternoon in February 2009, 45,000 people marched down Fitzroy St in Melbourne鈥檚 St Kilda neighbourhood to mark the 14th annual Pride March.
The parade was led by Dykes on Bikes, and the then-Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon led the police, one of her last public outings before she left her post.
鈥淭his is a wonderful occasion,鈥� she told enthusiastic crowds after the march.
鈥淯nquestionably you鈥檝e been there and you鈥檝e supported me and it鈥檚 a great pleasure to be part of this wonderful community.鈥�
It was Nixon鈥檚 second appearance at the march, after she controversially led the Victoria Police contingent back in 2002.
