My same-sex partner and l, both in our 70s, attended Monday’s Anti‐Herzog Rally, disappointed that there weren’t more Queer People there and that neither was Alex Greenwich or Clover Moore.
As wr were leaving after the wonderfully‐positive speeches, especially by Gace Tame and Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi, we were 4 people away on George St outside Woolworths, when an unprovoked sadistic attack by the Police happened before our disbelieving eyes. An older defenceless man was repeatedly tackled and viciously punched in the kidneys by 4 or 5 cops, then thrown to the ground, following which they all jumped on him and delivered further blows.
We saw another, even-worse, attack on a man on George St below Town Hall Steps, where cops had their legs on the man’s head/neck and back as he lay face‐down while they cuffed and repeatedly punched him in the head and kidneys. It was just like watching the George Floyd Murder by AmeriKan cops. The scenario gave credence to reports that the Israeli Defence Force had trained NSW Police.
I’m a retired solicitor and would gladly testify to the above in Court. My partner and I are now suffering from PTSD as a result of what we saw.
Like the USA and Britain, Australia (especially NSW) is no longer a liberal democracy and is descending into a right‐wing Police State, led by NSW under the authoritarian gaslighting Zionist Chris Minns, who is a traitor to the humanitarian values that the Labor Party was founded upon.
We will never vote or preference Labor ever again, in any circumstances and our shocked network of family and friends will do likewise. We will instead vote for The Greens or Progressive Independents.
Because of our negative experiences at the hands of homophobic NSW Police over the decades and, especially their inaction and active participation in violence against Queers and the deaths of 80+ gay men since the 1980s, we have always opposed Cops marching in our Parades.
After Monday’s violence by Police against peaceful protestors, it would be to the Queer Community’s eternal shame if it were to allow Police thugs to march with us again. Our cause is the same as that of the hapless Palestinians, First Nations Australians and all other marginalised amd vulnerable groups. Our adversaries are the the Australian Labor Party (and the far-right Opposition Parties), the Genocidal Zionist-Israeli régime and its local funders and enablers and the Murdoch-led right-wing local and international media and oligarchs.
