Rebel Wilson Speaks Up About ‘Grubby’ Threat To Be Outed
Australian actress Rebel Wilson has spoken up about the pressure to reveal her same-sex relationship to the public before the pair could tell some family and friends.
Wilson spoke to The Australian on Thursday about the 鈥済rubby鈥 incident after Sydney Morning Herald journalist, Andrew Hornery forced her hand to go public before the article broke the news.
Hornery鈥檚 email stated that transparency was important to him but he had 鈥渆nough detail to publish鈥 the news due to several sources confirming the relationship.
Hornery gave the Pitch Perfect star a deadline to respond.
This led to Wilson being given no choice but to break the news via Instagram, announcing her relationship with Ramona Agruma.

鈥淏asically, with the situation where a journalist is threatening to out you, you鈥檝e got to hurry, and some people we didn鈥檛 get a chance to tell before it came out publicly. And that鈥檚 not ideal,鈥 Wilson told聽The Australian.
鈥淚 just thought it was kind of grubby behaviour.鈥
International Backlash
The column by Hornery in response to Wilson breaking the news herself described his request for comment as a 鈥渂ig mistake.鈥
This incident triggered a backlash on not just a national scale, but on the international stage as well.
Hornery apologised after receiving some heat for his conduct, saying that he 鈥済ot it wrong.鈥
鈥淭丑别听贬别谤补濒诲听and I will approach things differently from now on to make sure we always take into consideration the extra layer of complexities people face when it comes to their sexuality,鈥 he wrote.
Wilson Says Friends And Some Family Knew
Wilson told The Australian that while her relationship 鈥渨asn鈥檛 a secret鈥 to some family members and friends, the actor highlighted the 鈥渓evels to telling people鈥 about same-sex relationships.
鈥淭here are levels to telling 颅people,鈥 Wilson said.
鈥淵ou tell your close family and your friends and not everybody. Across our two families, not everybody is as 颅accepting as what you鈥檇 hope for, and we were trying to be respectful to those people and tell them in our own way.鈥
