Yes they’re the same in NZ with their prejudices. What religious losers…at least Red Cross is empathetic towards the gay community, I personally dont subscribe to any religion.

Is anyone surprised? Seriously? Christianity, like all the Abrahamic religions, is notoriously anti-LGBTIQ, and the Salvation Army is one of the most openly militant and militaristic branches of the Christian religion. It even calls itself an army, and gives its leaders the titles of military officers. So OF COURSE they’re going to oppose a program like Safe Schools, whose ethos of acceptance and anti-bullying towards gay people flies in the face of their own faith’s highly negative views about and hateful treatment of gay people. That’s what religious hate groups do.
Don’t be surprised when known bigots behave like bigots. By all means be angry towards and dismissive of them, but don’t be surprised. Be ready for it, and be waiting in the wings with an appropriate punishment: a newspaper or radio story that once again highlights and derides them for their folly and bigotry.
Because faiths rely on followers, and they get those by projecting an image to attract those followers. And as a consequence, they fail to attract those followers, raise those funds and gain that power over the community when they image projected of them and their opinions is one that no-one is able to take seriously.
