It really says something that Greenwich., vocal gay proponent of marriage equality’, has never experienced anything like this even in the 2.5yr marriage equality saga.
His calls for a legal service, however, are pointless. What is needed are meaty state anti-vilification laws (like in Victoria, after many years fighting against the anti-queer Labor gov); or else, federal anti-vilification laws – and this requires fighting against the anti-queer Labor gov. The laws should have an appropriate threshold; with adequate punishments; and should be enacted with a sweeping Woke broom through police. As the phrase goes: ‘It should be as easy to send a queephobe to prison as it is to order a burger on UberEats.’

Minns is anti-democratic and pathologically pro-Israel. The permit system, in which police have to approve a protest, is inherently anti-democratic. Minns has repeatedly leaned on police to use this power: has challenged protesters in court; and repeatedly sought new powers through statute.
It should never be up to government If, When, or How a person or group peacefully protests.
The actions of the Vic Pride Lobby, endorsing bans or protests at the discretion of police, is shameful. They’ve got some nerve, claiming to speak for me.

As one of the organisers of the first mardi gras in 1978, I think the parallels are chilling — police coralling peaceful protesters, then demanding they disperse with no where to go, then attacking brutally. The NSW Protest laws are worse now than any time after the 1979 legal victories wee won after the mardi gras arrests. It is outrageous if Police Force, with guns and tasers and uniforms, is in this year’s parade, promoting the anti-democratic policies of the Minns government..
