It’s refreshing to hear that a city government can discuss a topic such as this in a professional manner and with respect and regards to groups of marginalised people; even though throughout history these are the people who often are directly responsible for creating the modern society in which we live. Thanks Brigitte. Bringing back Joy will finally pay tribute to the role of sex workers in calling out corruption and fighting for and eventually winning law reform. NSW was the first place on the planet to decriminalise sex work. Their broader role in HIV prevention as they became primary educators to thousands of men at the outset of the HIV epidemic should also be acknowledged. They are the some of the unsung heroes of this fight and time they were recognised but also for their humanity as hard working women of their time.

Thanks for sharing this. I live about 200 metres from Joy’s original podium and would love to see her come back permanently in bronze. Will definitely have a hunt on the council page for an appropriate place to give community feedback!
